An Itinerary Guide
- Welcome and introductions, followed by a health & safety briefing (risk assessments are completed for each session).
- Discuss the different species of fish that we will be catching; the equipment and bait that you will be using and most importantly tuning your brain into thinking how fish behave and feed in the water.
- Walk from the fishing lodge via several lakes towards our fishing peg (a numbered location where anglers fish from). A big part of being a successful angler is observation; watching other anglers and the angling techniques they are successfully using, along with any fish movements in the water. Angling is as much about using your brain as it is about physical control of a fishing rod.
- There will be several different fishing rods and poles already assembled. Everybody is an individual, therefore by having a good selection I should find one that you find most comfortable to fish with.
- The fishing session will be directed towards catching the larger hard fighting Carp that are prolifically stocked within the Partridge Lakes complex. We will build up a swim to encourage fish to feed freely, talking in more detail about fishing baits and rigs that are being used.
- Throughout the session you will be practicing core angling skills such as: Rig Control, Bite Recognition, Hooking a Fish, Playing a Fish, Landing a fish, Unhooking a Fish and most importantly Handling a Fish.
- As the session concludes you will have developed angling skills building confidence to a level whereby you may consider purchasing your own fishing tackle.
Once you have gained personal confidence in the fishing tackle being used and catching fish, then we broaden your angling horizons.

I prefer Rod & Reel fishing techniques because I find it much more challenging and thrilling than using an elasticated fishing pole. The direct contact with your senses; feeling the power of a fish through a quality carbon rod hooped over on the skyline is far superior than the dulled sensation of playing a fish through a stretched piece of pole elastic. A personal opinion only; but nonetheless encapsulates the whole spirit of angling using light balanced fishing tackle to fully appreciate the experience of playing a hooked fish.
Manchester Angler only offers limited POLE FISHING coaching. I would be providing customers with a great disservice if I coached a technique that I had no passion for!
Therefore very basic pole fishing skills are coached using a 6 metre margin pole within our 'Fishing Taster Sessions' and 'Introduction to Fishing' offering the participant an experience of the method.

Activity Q & A's
1:1 or Group Coaching? All of Manchester Angler coaching sessions are 1:1. However, I am happy for 'A Fun Introduction to Fishing' to be shared between two children / adults. I must highlight that only one fishing rod will be used at any one time; therefore whilst one is fishing the other participant will be watching!
Suitability? For anybody aged 10 years upwards who has already enjoyed a 'Fishing Taster Session' and wishes to learn more core angling skills.
Alternatively somebody aged 10 years upwards who may have fished occasionally on Summer holidays and already has a basic concept of casting with a rod and reel.
Maybe you are a returning angler after many years away from the sport. Fishing tackle, venues, species and techniques have changed drastically in the past decade. This activity is ideal for such anglers to become familiarized with new equipment and develop confidence using modern angling techniques. PLEASE NOTE: Children between the age of 10 and 16 Must be accompanied by a carer or parent. Can people with physical restrictions or learning difficulties take part in this activity?
I strive to make fishing available to EVERYONE. Therefore if parents or carers wish to contact me to discuss how we can tailor the activity to facilitate the needs of a specific condition then please do so.
I'm proud to state that Manchester Angler will do its utmost to ensure our services are accessible to all members of our community.
Are spectators allowed? I encourage friends and family to enjoy angling with the participant during the coaching session - However I only allow a MAXIMUM OF ONE SPECTATOR during 'Introduction to Fishing' packages! There will be a comfortable chair available for the spectator.
What is included within the package?
We use high quality balanced fishing equipment to enhance the enjoyment of hooking and playing a hooked fish. All the fishing bait is supplied along with a fishing permit and rod license. To ensure you do not dehydrate after working hard catching large fish there is cool bottled water and fruit (apple & banana) available during the session.
What happens if the weather is poor?
'Introduction to Fishing' will only be cancelled and rescheduled in the worst of conditions; for example heavy rain or very strong winds. Fishing is an outdoor hobby so therefore light rain or rain showers comes with the territory. However, I don't want your fishing experience to be a wet and miserable one. Therefore a gazebo is set up adjacent to our fishing peg to provide shelter from our unpredictable weather.
What do you need to bring with you?
Please bring along all of the great British Summer basics:
Please ensure you have adequate warm outdoor clothing during the cooler months of April, September, October & November. Use multiple layers rather than just one thick coat.
Do not hesitate to ask me when booking a session if you are unsure what clothing to wear during any of the fishing activities.
